End of the Year

Time to be out with the Old and in with the New. Hopefully we all learned from our mistakes and grew into much better people than we were last year. I thought about revamping the Blog but decided to keep everything posted up for another year at least. Let the words and events as witnessed and recorded and creatively told by me stand up for all to see. Let others judge by these actions. As I get older I grow more focused upon achievement. What have I done today, this week, this month, this last year that I can be proud of? And with achievement, comes the questions of who was recipient of such events or who benefitted from such things? And with achievement comes failure. For without shortcomings and outright opposition to our personal cause that stop us and make us think, where would we be? Success is built on failure. Remember that every time you turn on a houselight you are indebted to the inventor Thomas Eddison for the lightbulb. He had to do his experiments literally Thousands of

Public Safety Never Rests

Was home sick today all day, didn't go anywhere or do anything due to the Cold bug. Yet I was dispatched up theRoad after 2000 hrs to help someone else. Was it a DV call?, another Assault?, perhaps another Vehicle In Ditch?, maybe some Villager had a Blonde moment and locked their keys in the car again. Who knows. I got to my destination in record time and without seeing any Moose by roadside at all. In fact I doubt that I did see any Moose at all due to the fact that when speeding to a Call, I really see nothing else but the road ahead of me and feel nothing but the road beneath my Left foot (the brake pedal) and theVehicle beneath my Right foot (the gas pedal). With my feet I see what's under me and how the engine is doing at the time. I can also spin plates on my nose and juggle village issues like no other. It's a learned process, takes experience to juggle tasks and keep on the road and stay in theVillage-at high speeds. I saw whom I needed to see and everyone was H

Merry Christmas

Everyone around me has been sick for awhile, guess it was inevitable that I too would get sick. My throat is sore and my lungs ache from coughing, I feel 3' thick and have body ache. This illness hasn't hit my appetite though thank goodness, not that I eat much anyways. Today theFamily drove out to theMountains where theHomestead is and there they are. It's just me and the two Cats lounging about theVillage house. We've been burning through various DVD movies, playing PC games and Texas hold 'em too. I've got no shoes on right now, should tell you how good I play cards. Long ago Christmas for me was about waking up in the morning and getting presents from Santa Clause. Now it's about letting others wake up and seeing them get presents from Santa Clause. Yet this last year for me has been a slim one. I have been unable to work steady in my calling of Public Safety and this year I have not been able to buy anything for anyone. It hurts the Manhood just a litt

(Just the two of us) I salute the Navy SEAL's as inspiration for this months theme facial: &quo

Warmest Holiday Greetings

Holiday Greetings! I wanted to send out some sort of holiday greeting to my friends, but it is so difficult in today's world to know exactly what to say without offending someone. So I met with my attorney yesterday, and on his advice I wish to say the following: Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, nonaddictive, gender neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of religious persuasion or secular practices of your choice with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2006, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to s

Love Lost

"27, 29, 30 , 32, 33, 36, 38, 40!!" counted James in unison with the rest of the men around him, except they counted out loudly as their Physical Fitness Test partner completed each pushup or situps, while Lee and James worked together and eventually helped each other pass the PFT final. But the large black Navy SEAL standing off to the side didn't miss the odd count, he just looked at his swim buddy the "hulk Hooligan" look alike and they quietly chuckled behind mirrored shades and stone faces. At least these two Recruits "were" working hard and fast and that's what mattered in the end. "Thanks James " Lee said one day almost a year later. "aaghh." James guffawed. "We had to get out of there," "I had to see her". he paused between bites of his chicken kiev as the two Sailors quietly sat on the messdecks of theWarship. "So you're a squadron man and I'm a ship mechanic?" James mused. "Y

We Hired “Quiet” Because the Last One Wasn’t.

She was quiet , that was Caroline’s first impression of Helen. And her aunt was with her; they had driven all the way down from Seattle to visit the aunt’s daughter, who was a nanny. As the aunt and Caroline talked, Caroline reflected that Helen had two points in her favor. Her cousin was a nanny so she would know at least secondhand what the job was all about. And she did seem to come from a nice family; her aunt was delightful. The first nanny had been a professional baby nurse who they felt was too domineering. Maybe a young, inexperienced, but sweet and loving girl was what they really needed, Caroline decided. She hired Helen on the spot. When she told her the job started in two weeks because the family was leaving on a ten day vacation shortly, Helen’s face fell. She was here. Where would she stay in the meantime? Caroline recalls her decision: “I thought, so what’s two weeks’ extra salary the the risk of leaving a perfect stranger in your house while yo

Things Aren't Always What They Seem

I like E-mails like this. It even has a pair of footprints and an angel drawn in but I couldn't get the pictures to line up with cut-and-paste. So I post this without the pictures. Two traveling angels Keep reading to the bottom of the page -- don't stop at the feet (You'll see). Two traveling angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family. The family was rude and refused to let the angels stay in the mansion's guest room. Instead the angels were given a small space in the cold basement. As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it. When the younger angel asked why, the older angel replied, "Things aren't always what they seem." The next night the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor, but very hospitable farmer and his wife. After sharing what little food they had the couple let the angels sleep in their bed where they could have a good night's rest. When the sun came up th

Look Back At Sodom

Look Back At Sodom (A timely account from imaginary Sodom Scrolls) Elder Neal A. Maxwell © Copyright 1975 by Deseret Book Company. All rights reserved. Licensed by Infobases, Inc. for inclusion in the LDS Collectors Library. Introduction Look Back at Sodom, Introduction SUPPOSE someone had kept his impressions of Sodom on several scrolls which were later found. They might well contain such things as are on the pages to follow. SELDOM does a whole city or society disappear without a trace. Yet this is what happened to four towns or cities (Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim) on the plains of Siddim around 1900-2000 B.C. The best-known of these sister cities was Sodom. We have some information in the scriptures about what happened, but even less information in secular records. Significantly, Jesus Christ confirmed both the existence and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah during his earthly ministry. One can imagine the tremendous curiosity and excitement, therefore, that any add

An Old Press Release

Village public safety officer defuses tense situation July 2001 A Village Public Safety Officer had his hands full dealing with an intoxicated and armed man holed up in his house in theVillage Thursday. The Strategic Emergency Response Team , the Alaska State Troops version of a SWAT team, was three minutes from landing in theVillage when VPSO Flyinghorse coaxed D. 30, to lay down his gun and come out of his house, Troop Lt. Les Farming said. " Flyinghorse flat had his hands full and didn't crumble," "He was trying to appease him (D.), pass information on to us while we're trying to muster people and get them up there. And he was dealing with other intoxicated individuals that were wandering in and out of the scene." R.D. was intoxicated and had allegedly fired his rifle three or four times, according to troops. Another man accused D. of pointing the rifle at him with the intent to shoot, while D.'s son told troopers he had grabbed his mother's ha

who wants to be re wired?

I was a child, my life was before me and at the time I really had no concept of the Future. Living with a good Christian family for a time and season away from the Reservation and all it's dysfunctional attractions fueled by drugs and alcohol. I was a child that felt safe living on the farm. Early fall it was when Dad sent me over to the North pasture with a small metal bucket of oats. Seems that a young mother cow was out there with her young calf. Dad needed to feed her something other than grass and hay. So I set out on foot with that bucket of oats, or was it grain? Time erases the details but time sets into motion things that make us what we are Today regardless if we are in motion. Looking back on this moment, the trip for me wasn't 1/2 mile and yet I seemed to walk for hours. The small mountains to the West would soon be snow covered and from them the whole Valley would get water from the runoff in the spring and throughout the summer. I walked past the irrigation di
